About Me

One of my most important values is authenticity, so I am happy to share who I am with you.  I am a queer, nonbinary, and trans-masculine person of Filipinx descent.  While I am flexible with pronouns, I primarily use they/them/theirs and he/him/his.  I am a perfectly imperfect parent and spouse.  Other values that are important to me include growth, connection, liberation, humor, justice, and hope.

Professionally, I am primarily focused on improving how the mental health field provides trauma therapy to people from diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, races, and ethnicities.  I have presented on these issues locally and nationally on this topic and on other related issues, including internalized oppression, family estrangement, and supervision challenges.

Outside of my private practice, I am an associate professor at Alliant International University, San Diego, a psychology doctoral program.  Part of my role there is to direct and supervise one of our university-affiliated outpatient clinics.  I have been in the helping field for almost 25 years, teaching graduate students for over 20 years, and a licensed psychologist for over 10 years.

The Therapy I Provide

I am a licensed clinical psychologist treating anxiety, trauma, and PTSD, as well as sex and sexuality issues, especially among diverse populations. These populations include people of color, queer people, and transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive people.

It is important to know that my approach is first and foremost a relational and humanistic one.  Previous clients have described me as warm, approachable, and empathic. Our ability to build a connection lays the groundwork for any other work we will do together. I see clients in person on Mondays in the Bankers Hill area of San Diego.  All other appointments are virtual.

I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my practice, but I also provide sex therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and exposure therapy.  Much of the treatment I provide focuses on making changes in the service of living our most meaningful lives. Success is measured by how much more engaged you are with your values and what is important in your life, even in the presence of difficult or overwhelming thoughts and feelings. I look forward to helping you get there!
